Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted on social media after the incident that occurred during the evening protest in Tirana, where a participant carrying the LGBT community flag faced opposition and calls from some protesters.
Through a post in English, Rama shared footage of the moment and condemned the behavior towards the young man, emphasizing that discrimination and exclusion have no place in Albanian society.
"This is not the Albania we believe in and it is certainly not the Albania we are building as a proud member of the European family.", the prime minister wrote.
He expressed solidarity with the protester carrying the LGBT flag, emphasizing that no one should be subjected to attacks or humiliation because of their identity or beliefs.
"Full solidarity with the boy who was bullied. No human being should be humiliated, excluded or targeted just because they are different", said Rama.
At the end of the reaction, the head of government criticized the people who opposed the presence of the flag at the protest, writing: “Shame on the bullies.”
Rama's reaction comes on the 11th day of anti-government protests, which have gathered thousands of citizens in Tirana and other cities in the country.
While the protest has focused on opposing controversial projects and demanding the government's resignation, the prime minister chose to comment on the incident recorded during the rally, placing emphasis on respecting the rights and dignity of every citizen.
