The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has reacted to Prime Minister Edi Rama's statements regarding the protests against the project in Zvërnec, describing them as unacceptable and insulting to the citizens who are protesting.
During his weekly conversation with citizens on social networks, Berisha expressed his strong condemnation of the comparisons made by the prime minister.
"I strongly condemn the comparison that Rama made to the protesters with Hitler's phalanxes. This is an extremely serious act. Yesterday, in his rants, he even tried to compare Mithat Frashëri to Hitler, for the sole reason that the protesters used a quote by Mithat Frashëri," Berisha declared.
The leader of the Democrats also criticized Rama's statements about foreign influences after the protests, describing them as part of an old political mentality.
"The world's largest media outlets say we are in a hybrid war. The statements about Greece or other countries doing everything against our tourism are the inherited psychology of Enver Hoxha about external and internal enemies," he said.
According to Berisha, attempts to link the protests to external factors aim to dilute the legitimacy of the citizen reaction to the project in Zvërnec.
"It is trying to delegitimize citizen protests by linking them to external factors, while the reactions against the project are an expression of citizen dissatisfaction," said the leader of the Democratic Party.
Protests against the project in Zvërnec have been ongoing in Tirana for several days, while organizers have warned that they will continue until the demands presented are met.
