US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that currently the issue of Kosovo's membership in NATO is not on the agenda of member states.
This issue was raised in a hearing in the US Congress with Secretary Rubio, where Congressman Keith Self asked him to support Kosovo's membership in NATO, while describing the Balkan region as "very fragile".
Rubio clarified that it does not mean that membership will never happen, but that the issue has not been discussed "in recent conversations with our NATO allies," due to other issues in the world.
""What I have noticed is that right now, in general, NATO is so focused on some of the other issues that have been raised here today, that enlargement, especially in the case of Kosovo, is not at the forefront of the agenda of some of these states," Rubio said.
Congressman Keith said that Kosovo's integration is essential for stability, while asking Rubio to raise the Kosovo issue at the NATO summit to be held in Ankara, reports. RTK.
"We have four NATO allies who are blocking Kosovo's entry into NATO. We have the difficult issue between Kosovo and Serbia, Serbia considers Kosovo a province, most countries in the world recognize Kosovo as a sovereign state. I ask you to support Kosovo's membership in NATO. The presence of our troops is very important in that region, KFOR in particular," Self said to Rubio.
