Israeli strikes in Gaza kill 3, testing fragile ceasefire

Israeli airstrikes have killed at least three Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, deepening concerns about the durability of a ceasefire brokered by the United States.

According to local medical sources, one person was killed and two others were injured in an attack on the Maghazi refugee camp, in central Gaza.

Meanwhile, in another attack in Khan Younis, the head of the criminal police and an aide, linked to the Hamas-led administration, were killed, according to Reuters.

The Israeli military said it had struck militants who were carrying out "suspicious activities" and posed an immediate threat to its troops, adding that members of an elite Hamas unit preparing attacks were also targeted.

The latest violence comes at a time when a ceasefire agreed in October 2025 has been fragile and frequently violated by both sides. Palestinian authorities report that at least 850 Palestinians have been killed since the agreement came into effect, while Israel says four of its soldiers have been killed by militants during the same period.

The funerals of the victims in Khan Younis were accompanied by calls against the Israeli attacks, while residents accused Israel of aiming to destabilize order in the territory by hitting local security structures.

The war in Gaza, which began in October 2023, has caused over 72,500 Palestinian casualties, the majority of them civilians, according to health authorities in the territory, making it one of the bloodiest conflicts in the region in recent decades.
