"Only protests force the government to react, on April 17th everyone in the square" - Teliti

Dorjan Teliti, coordinator of the economic program at the Democratic Party and at the same time vice president of the opposition group of advisors at the Tirana Municipal Council, during an interview with News24 focused on the role of protests as a means of pressure on the government to solve problems affecting citizens.

He cited as an example the recent situation with fuel prices and the reaction of the authorities after the reduction of the urban transport fleet by private operators. According to Teliti, this development clearly showed that institutions only react when faced with direct pressure.

"Citizens received the message today that without reaction and without protest, the government will not intervene," he said, adding that the movement of transport operators was the moment that forced the majority to promise to review the fuel tax.

Teliti emphasized that the protest remains, according to him, the only effective mechanism to force the government to reflect and take concrete measures.

"Only when the urban transport operators rose up in protest, there was a reaction from the government. This shows that it is the only way to force them to sit down for dialogue," he declared.

In this context, he called on citizens to join the protest announced for April 17, arguing that only through public pressure can concrete changes be achieved. According to him, the government does not take initiatives to solve problems unless it directly confronts the demands of citizens.
