Trump: Israel and Lebanon agreed to a 10-day ceasefire


US President Donald Trump announced that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have agreed to initiate a 10-day ceasefire, which begins at midnight Wednesday local time in Israel.

Through a post on Truth Social, Trump described the talks with the two leaders as "excellent" and considered this a crucial step towards long-term peace, they went on. Ynet.

"The ceasefire will officially begin at midnight in Israel. This is a step towards achieving peace between the two countries, which recently met in Washington for the first time in 34 years," Trump wrote.

The US President announced that he has instructed Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Caine, to work intensively with both sides to secure a lasting agreement.

He plans to invite Netanyahu and Aoun to the White House for what he considers the first meaningful talks between Israel and Lebanon since 1983.

"Both sides want peace and I am confident that an agreement can be reached quickly. We hope that this will be the beginning of a new era," he said.

In Lebanon, the presidency confirmed that Aoun thanked Trump for his efforts, having previously insisted that a cessation of fighting was a necessary condition for any direct engagement.

Meanwhile, in Israel, Netanyahu called an emergency telephone meeting with the entire security cabinet to discuss the details of this ceasefire.

Despite the announcement, the situation on the ground remains extremely tense.

Until the final moments before the agreement came into effect, Hezbollah continued to launch rockets and drones into northern Israel, while the Israeli army continued airstrikes in southern Lebanon, raising questions about the full implementation of this 10-day ceasefire.
