Kosovo marks the Day of Survivors of War Sexual Violence


Today is the Memorial Day of Survivors of Sexual Violence during the Last War in Kosovo. The observance of this day commemorates the suffering and trauma of those who experienced sexual violence during the war in Kosovo.

This day aims to recognize the injustice experienced and the trauma as a result of such crimes and at the same time raise awareness about delayed justice and the fight against stigma.

In marking this day, this Tuesday, April 14, 2024, the Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, also the Speaker of the Parliament, Albulena Haxhiu, pays homage to the “Heroines” Memorial. Meanwhile, the KRCT holds the Regional Conference “Advancing Access to Justice for Survivors of War Sexual Violence: Criminal Responsibility and the Right to Compensation”. The Acting President, Albulena Haxhiu, and the Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, are participating, RTKlive reports.

In celebration of the Memorial Day for Survivors of War Sexual Violence – "Return My Light", the Assembly of Kosovo, at 17:00 PM, is holding a solemn session.

Otherwise, April 14 has been designated as the Day of Survivors of Sexual Violence during the recent war in Kosovo. This decision will contribute to the preservation of collective memory, while mentioning the need for solidarity with survivors of sexual violence, writes RTK.
