The session of the Kosovo Assembly to elect the president was interrupted at the opening due to the lack of a quorum. Only 66 deputies were present in the hall, an insufficient number to continue the voting procedure.
Parliament Speaker Albulena Haxhiu announced that the session will continue at another time, if the necessary conditions for its holding are met.
According to constitutional rules, at least 80 votes in favor of the president are required in the first round of the election by the members of the Kosovo Assembly. Due to the lack of the necessary number of members in the hall, the process could not continue with the vote, writes Koha.
During her statement, Haxhiu said that she had called several times for the absent MPs to appear in the hall, so that the session could be held in accordance with the Constitution and the decisions of the Constitutional Court.
However, according to her, their absence meant that the presence of two-thirds of the deputies was not ensured, which made it impossible to continue the procedure for electing the president.
