
The Minister of Interior, Albana Koçiu, through a post on social networks, emphasized that the draft law on the Municipal Police is a new vision, which according to her aims to build a more professional Municipal Police.
According to Koçiu, improving services and increasing public safety are at the center of the new draft law "On Municipal Police", which aims to strengthen the role of local structures and increase their efficiency in serving citizens.
The initiative, after public consultation, is expected to be discussed in the Consultative Council with the local government.
Koçiu also announces that the draft law provides for a new organization of the Municipal Police at two levels, at the central and local levels, establishing the same professional and functional standards in all municipalities in the country.
The central level, according to Koçiu, will be responsible for setting national standards, coordinating the work of local directorates, and ensuring strong inter-institutional cooperation. This level will exercise a supporting and coordinating role, without infringing on the authority of local self-government units.
Meanwhile, according to the minister, the local level will continue to have full authority on the ground, with increased competencies, enabling the provision of higher quality, faster and more effective services to the community.
