The Skërfica fire endangers the territory of Gjirokastra, firefighters on the ground to isolate the flames


At around 05:00 in the morning, Gjirokastra firefighters, together with 15 municipal employees, intervened to isolate a powerful fire on the Skërfica mountain, which was spreading from Delvina towards Gjirokastra. The difficult terrain requires coordination to protect residential areas and forests.

Meanwhile, the situation in the Fushë-Bardhë–Zhulat mountain range is under control, with some logs still burning in Zhulat, with no risk of spreading. The Ministry of Environment continues monitoring and appeals for cooperation from citizens.

In the early hours of this morning, around 05:00, the Gjirokastra fire service, in cooperation with the support forces of the Gjirokastra Municipality, intervened on the Skërfica mountain to isolate the spread of a powerful fire that is advancing from the territory of Delvina towards Gjirokastra.

The following are involved in this operation:

6 employees of the Gjirokaster Municipal Health Service
15 municipal public service employees

The terrain is difficult and requires high coordination to prevent the flames from spreading to residential areas or areas of forest interest.

 

 

Meanwhile, authorities announce that the situation in the Fushë-Bardhë - Zhulat mountain range, where several fires were active the day before, is under full control.
The fire has been completely extinguished, while in the village of Zhulat, several large logs continue to burn, but without any risk of spreading. These areas are being monitored by the fire service to prevent any possible reactivation.

The Gjirokastra Fire Department remains on high alert, while appealing for cooperation from local residents to report any fire signals and to avoid actions that could lead to the rekindling of the flames.
