Hamas and Islamic Jihad claim responsibility for the explosion in Tel Aviv

On Monday, the armed wings of Hamas and Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for a bomb blast in Tel Aviv near a synagogue.

Israeli authorities, including police and the Shin Bet intelligence agency, described the incident as an act of terrorism.

According to reports, a man carrying a backpack filled with explosives was killed when the bomb exploded, while a bystander was injured.

The incident took place on Sunday evening in Israel's commercial capital. Israeli government spokesman David Mencer said the man carrying the bomb had intended to reach a more populated area to cause more damage, but the explosion occurred earlier, according to Reuters.

In a joint statement, Palestinian militant groups said such suicide attacks inside Israel will continue as long as Israel's "massacres and killing policies" continue.

This statement refers to Israel's offensive in Gaza and the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31, for which Israel has neither admitted nor denied responsibility.

The attack in Tel Aviv came just an hour after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in the city to push for a ceasefire in Gaza aimed at ending the 10-month war between Israel and Hamas.

This event has added to the urgency of reaching a ceasefire agreement, especially after Iran's threats of retaliation against Israel following Haniyeh's killing.
