One day after the Assembly approved with 106 votes in favor of the amendments to the Electoral Code, the Laws Commission addressed to President Bajram Begaj with a request for prior authorization for the amendments to be put into effect immediately.
Sources from the Presidency inform about Shqiptarja.com that President Begaj has refused to give the authorization for the introduction of changes immediately into force, saying that the law will have to go through the normal procedures of decree.
The request for authorization for the introduction of the law immediately into force came from the Law Commission in order to give the Central Election Commission the right time to organize the process for the diaspora vote.
Chief Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi himself in his public appearances before the approval of the new Electoral Code stated that the CEC is the CEC is prepared to build the infrastructure for the technical aspect of this process, but the time available is limited. For this reason, the Laws have requested an accelerated procedure for the entry into force of the new changes.
