India arrests CEO of AI startup after her 4-year-old son's body is found in her suitcase

The CEO of an Indian AI startup has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her 4-year-old son after his body was found in her suitcase, police said Tuesday. Suchana Seth, who runs the Mindful AI Lab in the Indian technology hub of Bengaluru, was stopped in Karnataka state's Chitradurga district on her way back from neighboring Goa and arrested after the body was found in her luggage, they said.

Seth could not be taken as a witness because she was in custody and police said they did not know if she still has an attorney. Staff at her company could not be reached for comment.

Seth had checked into a hotel with her son in Goa on Saturday, but the son was not with her when she was checked in on Monday night, Goan police inspector Paresh Naik said. Hotel cleaning personnel found blood stains in the room after she checked and informed the police, Naik added.

Police then contacted the taxi driver over phone and asked him to take Seth to the nearest police station, he said.

"When her suitcases were opened, the child's dead body was found," Superintendent of Police North Goa Nidhin Valsan told reporters.

The Goa police brought Seth back to the state, Valsan said, adding that her husband was in Indonesia and had been asked to come to India. Reuters was unable to reach Seth's husband or anyone in her family for comment.

A local court remanded him to six days in police custody, news agency ANI reported.
