The American ambassador to Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, has stated that Washington has made it clear that it 'does not support any agreement that violates the Constitution of Kosovo' or that 'threatens its sovereignty, independence and multi-ethnic character'.
"We strongly oppose the creation of an entity resembling Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina." Hovenier said.
He made the comments after a discussion that was organized on Tuesday by the American Embassy in Pristina for the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority in Kosovo, writes News.
The agreement for the formation of this association was reached in 2013 within the dialogue for the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations, mediated by the European Union, but it was never implemented.
In Pristina, the officials say that they cannot allow the formation of an ethnic association with executive powers, while in Belgrade they insist on its establishment.
Hovenier said that the US expects "Kosovo to fulfill its obligations".
"We ask the Government of Kosovo to offer its vision for the Association, which believes that it protects the future of Kosovo as a sovereign, independent, multi-ethnic, democratic state, and ensures the rights of minorities in accordance with the Brussels agreements and the Constitution of Kosovo." Hovenier said.
