Starting June 1, Albanian patents will be recognized in Germany.
The agreement was signed this Tuesday by the Parliamentary Secretary of State at the Federal Ministry for Digital Development and Infrastructure, Oliver Luksic, and the Minister for Energy and Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku.
"It is a pleasure to be here to sign this important agreement. We have been initiating this process for two years. It will be an important contribution to bringing our countries closer together, it is also an important signal from Albanians living in Germany. This is an agreement that is about a "win-win" relationship. It will also improve immigration problems. It is a signal of rapprochement with the EU for Albania. It is a small step towards the European Union", said Luksic.
More than 15 Albanians have converted their driving licenses in the countries where they work from 2019-2021, Balluku declared. The minister added that the improvement of infrastructure and teaching for trainees has been reflected in the reduction in the number of accidents.
"We have attached particular importance to the license with high security elements, as required by EU partners. We have improved the infrastructure for teaching students. These measures have contributed to increasing reliability. The results have been reflected in the reduction in the number of accidents. The year 2020 marks the digital revolution of theoretical and practical testing. Today, in Tirana, we only need 30 minutes to issue a driving license. Germany is not the only country. Albania has signed agreements with Italy, Greece, North Macedonia, Croatia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Serbia and the Emirates. Agreements with Spain, Turkey, Bosnia and Saudi Arabia are in process. In 2019-2021, more than 15 thousand Albanian citizens have converted their licenses," said the minister.
The new rules take effect on June 1, 2022
Holders of a driving license of categories A, A1, A2, B, BE, C, C1, C2, D, D1, D2 (motorcycle, car, truck, bus), issued after January 24, 2017, can make the conversion without the need for a new exam.
This applies to citizens with residence in Germany (staying in Germany for at least 185 days per year).
Through this agreement, the possibility of safe legal access to the labor market is created for fellow Albanian citizens in Germany, for which the driving license is often an important criterion.
