Today marks 5 years since the adoption of the Justice Reform. The 140 deputies of the Assembly voted in favor of this reform, on July 22, 2016, and after 5 years, the Independent Qualification Commission has made the balance of the vetting process.
According to the KPK, in these 5 years of work, 155 judges and prosecutors have been dismissed from the vetting process. This is because of the problems they had with 3 criteria: wealth, clean image or professional skills.
Balance sheet of the KPK:
- 174 decisions on confirmation in office
- 155 decisions on dismissal from office
- 56 decisions on interruption of the process (resignation)
- 8 decisions on the suspension of the process
- 25 decisions to end the process without a final decision
- 3 decisions on suspension from office for a period of 1 year.
July 22 is an important date because after a series of negotiations, all 140 deputies of the Albanian Assembly voted in favor of the Justice Reform.
Some time later after the approval of the Constitutional amendments, the 2 most important vetting bodies, KPK and KPA, were established. The first with a 5-year term that is already nearing completion and the KPA with a 9-year term.
