The Secretary General of the Socialist Party, Taulant Balla, is convinced that Lulzim Basha will be re-elected as leader of the Democratic Party.
In a statement to the media, Balla said that he does not believe that Basha will refuse cooperation with the majority, regardless of the latter's statements that he will never do so.
"The Socialist Party and Prime Minister Rama have very clearly expressed their willingness to create a new spirit and a new communication with the opposition, which must find itself to contribute to this historical process. In September, in the Albanian Parliament, we must have the opportunity to create new communication opportunities, political dialogue, in function of some important reforms, which require a qualified majority in the Assembly. We have all the opportunities to identify issues that we have an agreement with the DP, I recall some political reforms that even Basha himself, who will apparently be re-elected again, will have the opportunity to reduce and identify in order to move them forward.
I often ask for 94 votes, I want to tell you that the deputies in the Assembly hall from February 26, 2019 are from the DP and LSI lists.
Some of them were in the PD even though the PD promised to permanently excommunicate them from their party. Parties are responsible when they propose candidates for deputies, this kind of exposure, that a deputy does not pass, or does not support the party's line, does not work. The deputy is responsible for the actions he takes. In this sense, for the first time in 30 years every political party has learned a lesson, none of us, no party chooses the opponent.
The day you choose your opponent, then go somewhere else. In this institutional field, opposite the DP is the SP and the parliamentary group. We have every desire for these communication bridges.
Whether he wants it or not, he has tried this path, the path of boycott, non-communication, lack of dialogue, after the passing of Sunday's fever related to the PD election process, I think that Basha will understand that his political opponent is us, but in the end we are Albanians. What the Albanians are waiting for is to establish a new communication, in a year when Albania has started negotiations to join the EU. I believe that what Basha does not accept falls in this perspective, I do not believe that he will not accept it."- said Balla.
