"May 1" amid riots in France, protesters clash with the police (Video)

May 1 protests in the French city of Lyon spiraled out of control, with black-clad anarchists clashing with police.

Unions and labor groups took to the streets of Lyon on Saturday to mark International Workers' Day.

Waving red banners, some 3,000 workers were soon joined by black-clad anarchist protesters. Marching towards Place Bellecour in the center of the city, the procession found the road blocked by the police and moments later clashes broke out between them and the officers.

As the officers pushed the crowd back, some protesters resisted and fought with them using batons.

Similar demonstrations were held in Paris, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Nantes and Marseille, with several thousand participants reported in each city.
