Meta posts the photo of the Vjosa river: The government should withdraw from the construction of hydropower plants on this natural paradise

President Meta has published a photo from the Vjosë River while denouncing the attitude of Prime Minister Rama and his ministers regarding the status of this river.

According to the head of state, the government has decided to declare only the upper part of the river and the middle and lower reaches as a 'protected area'. According to Meta, this excludes the most valuable parts of the river from protection.

"I fully support the joint statement of "EcoAlbania", "Riverwatch" and "EuroNatur", as well as groups of scientists and environmentalists, local and foreign, for declaring the entire Vjosa river valley a National Park. For the same concern, that despite the public statements of the Prime Minister and members of the government, the situation in reality is going in the opposite direction, since only the upper part of Vjosa is planned to declare the area as a "Protected Landscape" category, while in the current middle and lower, no protection status is foreseen. This plan not only excludes the most valuable parts of the river system, but it would also leave unprotected the area where the Kalivac and Pocem dams are planned." - writes Meta.

At the end of the reaction, Meta calls on the government to listen to the voice of the community, civil society, activists and the academic world to withdraw from any project on the Vjosa River.

"I repeat the call to the Government to listen to the voice of the community, civil society, environmental activists, the academic, university world and Albanian and EU personalities, to withdraw from any project that envisages the construction of HPPs over the river Vjosa. Thanking again the Acting President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, for his solidarity with this cause, he expresses the will to continue our efforts together to prevent, through democratic means, any political decision-making contrary to the public interest, which aims to destroy of this natural and human paradise, like the river Vjosa." – close Meta feedback.
