The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, has just resigned from office.
"As I promised, under no circumstances will I allow the president of the Republic of Kosovo to appear before the court. Therefore, in order to protect the integrity of the presidency, the state of Kosovo, the integrity and dignity of the citizens of Kosovo, the people of Kosovo, while respecting the partnership and the international community, I am resigning today from the position of the president of the Republic of Kosovo."- said Thaçi.
He announced that the indictment was confirmed by the Special Court. This is also the reason why he makes the decision to resign.
"Dear representatives of the media, dear citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, A few moments ago I was informed by officially competent people that the judge of the preliminary procedure of the Specialized Chambers has confirmed the indictment against me. These are not easy moments for me, for my family and for you who have supported me in these three decades of our efforts for freedom, independence and state building.
I will cooperate closely with Justice and from this moment I am available to justice, believing in justice.
Therefore, today more than ever, I sit down and call you not to lose hope, patience and faith. Today more than ever I invite you to reflect on how much we have gained as a nation in these decades. We have gained freedom, independence and now we are starting to build our state."- said Thaçi.
The president said that this was not a farewell speech, while he promised that he would come out white-faced as far as the open case with the Hague Court is concerned.
"Dear citizens, let me thank you for the solidarity you have shown and support during this period. I invite you to keep calm and avoid any manifestation of support. Justice is not done on the street but by confronting arguments. Thank you for the trust you have given me. This is not goodbye but goodbye. We will see each other again and we will come out white-faced. May God bless Kosovo and our international friends."- said Thaçi./Hashtag.al
