A powerful earthquake has shaken Tirana.

The powerful tremors continued for several seconds, shaking the capital city.

They were felt especially on the high floors of the buildings. It is learned that the earthquake was 5.8 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was in the Adriatic Sea.

A few minutes later, another earthquake, about 5.6 on the Richter scale and with an intensity of 7.5, was felt in Tirana, Durrës and Kavajë as well as in the surrounding areas.

"Earthquake with magnitude 5.8 Richter and intensity above 7.5, 30 km north of Durres, on the coast near Cape Rodon. The strongest earthquake in the last 20-30 years." – it is stated in the announcement of the Institute of Geosciences, Energy, Water and Environment (IGJEUM).

Tremors were felt around 16:05 p.m.

Meanwhile, the police has published the emergency number and calls on all those who need help to call 112.

"After the tremors of the earthquake that occurred a few minutes ago, the Ministry of the Interior, based on the first reports it received from the Local Police Directorates, Fire Services and Prefectures, announces that there are no injured persons and no serious material damage. All law enforcement structures are on full alert and will take every measure to be close to and at the service of the citizens. MB and the State Police invite anyone who needs help to call the free number 112. This is a preliminary announcement and after deepening the information we will provide other data."
