
The partial shutdown of Federal Government services for more than a month has cost the American economy at least $11 billion, of which about $3 billion cannot be recovered, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) reports.
The government shutdown was also accompanied by a decline in economic activity, with the CBO estimating that the fourth-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by about $3 billion.
In the first quarter of 2019, the GDP level is lower than $8 billion, reflecting both the five weeks of partial shutdown and the recovery of economic activity, Atsh reports.
