Following the Stabilization and Association Council meeting today in Brussels, where the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, was also present, the opposition has reacted.
The chairman of the European Integration Committee, Genc Pollo, stated that the opposition was not allowed to participate in this meeting because the majority is afraid of it.
"This gesture is not just fear of the truth of the criminalization of the state, with the Bajra gang and many others, something that can no longer be hidden even in Tirana, Brussels and elsewhere," said Pollo.
POLLO'S REACTION
For the second time, the Rama government is violating the positive tradition of bipartisan representation in EU bodies as an expression of the consensual will for European integration. Today, just like a year ago, the Rama government appeared in Brussels only with officials like Bushati and others, but without the chairman of this commission for European integration, to whom no invitation was sent.
As early as 2011, the Democratic Party government created the positive precedent of including the then chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for European Integration, Ditmir Bushati, in the annual meetings of the Albania-European Union Stabilization and Association Council. This positive precedent, based on the consensus majority-opposition support for the country's EU membership, became a tradition until November 2017.
This gesture is not only a fear of the truth of the criminalization of the state, with the Bajra gang and many others, something that can no longer be hidden even in Tirana, Brussels and elsewhere. It is also a sign of the political degradation of this government that is destroying every positive political legacy it has found by clinging tightly to its chair like a drowning man clinging to a blade of grass.
